JESSIE WAGNER & ENVY

Rock, Rhythmn & Blues, and Passion

Jessie Wagner is one of those performers who instantly captures all of your attention … and won’t let go until she’s left you spent and exhausted.  Originally from Norfolk, Virginia, Jessie began her musical career while writing songs for Black House, a music production company in Jacksonville, Florida.  While appearing in various venues and clubs in the South, she continued to pursue her songwriting as well as performing with such artists as Bo Brice, with whom she eventually went on tour prior to his appearances on American Idol.

After finishing the tour with Bo Brice and his band, Sugar Money, Jessie moved to New York in an effort to discover more opportunities to further her career.  While living there, she was hired as one of the lead singers for Nile Rodgers and Chic.  Yes, you read that correctly: Chic.  She remained with the group for several years, performing with them through various tours and appearances.

To date, Jessie has an entertainment resume that spans appearances at such prestigious venues as the Montreux Jazz Festival and even the Grammy’s.  She has performed with such artists as Patti Labelle, Sir Elton John, Peter Gabriel, Sister Sledge, Musiq, the Pointer Sisters, and Bebe Winans.  When not creating new music with her band, Envy, Jessie can also be found touring with Kid Rock and has even contributed backing vocals on his last three albums.

With that introduction out of the way, let’s turn our attention now to one of Jessie Wagner and Envy’s albums which has us totally awed here at Que The Music:

 “Handle It” – Released: May 03, 2011

Jessie Wagner & Envy

Jessie Wagner & Envy

When listened to as a whole, this entire debut album is very obviously a labor of love and is definitely an exercise in combining classic album rock with a unique modern twist.  Jessie Wagner’s vocals are hot and steamy, yet possesses a rawness that draws the listener in to her orbit, hypnotized by her steel kitten seductiveness  Kieran Sullivan is lightning hot on rhythm guitar, blending elements of rock, reggae, and soul with subtle skill yet employing a playful rogue-like rebelliousness.  Dave Diamond lays down a solid rhythmn on drums that just keeps the band – and the music – hammering on.  Steve Bonacio’s bass-playing is hypnotic and even a bit dark and foreboding.  His skill on the bass taps in to that inner bad-assness and edginess that complements the rest of the band’s talents.  James Lewis’ work on guitar is improvisational, but also very much influenced by the likes of Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix.

Each band member is exceedingly accomplished and talented in their own right and their resumes prove that they can hold their own separately as individuals.  However, coming together like they have in Envy, I can assure you that this group has all the hallmarks of a formidable rock band well on their way to the top.

Keep your eyes – and your ears – tuned to this group because they are definitely worth your time, attention, and support!
